WE ARE SURVIVORS
I really enjoy the World Food Programme’s (WFPs) “Stories”- not only are there some beautiful yet heart breaking images, but also real people’s stories as well as the facts about the situations that many people are currently facing across entirely different countries, for entirely different reasons, worldwide.
When my younger sister, Lilly, first told me that she was going to Palestine, I thought she was nuts… all those images of dead or damaged people, with limbs blown off, and bandages all over the faces, as well as images of children and women screaming, in pain, whether physical or emotional – all those images popped into my head.
Each of the millions of Syrian refugees who have fled their brutalized, unrecognizable homeland did so for uniquely personal reasons — the regime bombarding cities, the Islamic State threatening a return to the dark ages, the loss of jobs in a crumbling economy. Yet their quests cohered around one purpose: They all wanted better lives.
Sharing the love!
UPDATED 13/01/2016 – just saw this! Hoorah!
“I have heard and read different opinions about the wave of Syrian refugees who try to make their way in to the EU. Then I went to Lesvos. 7 days on the Greek Island gave me a healthier, human perspective on the situation.
Seeing the people behind the headlines with my own eyes, and feeling their deep struggle, broke my heart.
Are they the “threat” people talk about? All I saw were courageous people in a time of crisis, looking for hope.
I also got to meet brave volunteers from all over the world who reach out to help all people regardless of their religion, race or background. That inspired me.
My hope is that this video might tear down some of the walls of bad ideas and opinions we have built around ourselves.”
